
Bangladesh-born US filmmaker Asif Akbar’s directorial venture titled ‘MR-9: Do or Die’ was released in cinemas in Russia on May 2, said a press release.
The film features the adventures of popular Bangladeshi spy character Masud Rana and was released in Russian language, said the film’s director Bangladesh-born US filmmaker Asif Akbar.
After ‘MR-9: Do or Die’ was released in cinemas in the USA and Canada, the film was released in North America on April 23.
The film is scheduled to be released in Australia on May 8 and Pakistan on May 17 through Cine Entertainment.
‘It was released in cinemas across Russia on May 2. It will be released under the banner of major distribution companies in different countries. “MR9” is the first Bangladesh and Hollywood co-production film. I hope that the film industry of Bangladesh will co-produce more films together with Hollywood and release those worldwide. The film has been successful internationally,’ said Asif Akbar.
‘A sequel titled “MR-9: Sky Dancer” is now being readied for a fall shoot. ABM Sumon and Niko Foster are scheduled to act in it. Discussion regarding other cast members is under way. The sequel is based on the second novel of Bangladeshi writer Qazi Anwar Hussain’s popular Masud Rana spy series titled Bharotnatyam and the screenplay has been jointly written by me, Abdul Aziz and Niko Foster,’ added Asif.
ABM Sumon played the character of Masud Rana in the film, which also stars Michael Jai White, Frank Grillo, Omi Vaidya, Anisur Rahman Milon, Sakshi Pradhan and others.
‘MR-9: Do or Die’ has been jointly produced by Jaaz Multimedia, Al Bravo Films and Chasing Butterflies Pictures.
Jaaz Multimedia, Avail Entertainment, Premiere Entertainment and Swapna Scarecrow are distributors of the film.
