Anwar Hossain

Today is the 11th anniversary of the death of actor Anwar Hossain, who is best known for his titular role in the film ‘Nawab Sirajuddaula’ in 1967.

Born on December 6, 1931, Anwar Hossain, a four-time National Film Award-winning actor, started acting from his school days, and made his debut in the film industry with the film ‘Tomar Amar’ in 1958. At the initial stage of his career, he used to play negative roles.


Although Anwar shot to fame for his role in the film ‘Rupban’, he received huge response acting in Khan Ataur Rahman’s film ‘Nawab Sirajuddaula’ in 1967.

He acted in more than 500 films in his career spanned over five decades, and established himself as one of the strongest film personalities in the industry.

Some of his notable films are ‘Jiban Theke Neya’, ‘Dhire Bahe Meghna’, ‘Ghani’, ‘Alor Pipasha’, ‘Golapi Ekhon Train-e’, ‘Debdas’, ‘Maina’ and ‘Nayeeka’. He also received National Film Award in the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

Anwar Hossain passed away on September 13, 2013.
