Bulbul Ahmed

Today is the 83rd anniversary of the birth of actor Bulbul Ahmed, who left his mark in several mediums, including television, film and theatre.

Born in 1941, Bulbul Ahmed began his acting career as a theatre artiste. He acted in Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Shesh Raksha’, which was staged at the MC College campus in Sylhet in 1957. Later, he joined the Drama Circle and performed in plays such as ‘Oedipus’ and ‘Arms and the Man’.


He performed in radio plays and acted in more than 250 plays for Bangladesh Betar.

Bulbul Ahmed made his silver screen debut in 1973 playing a supporting character in the film titled Ieye Korey Biye. Following which, he appeared in a central role in the film ‘Jiban Niye Juya’.

He earned huge popularity playing major roles in films, including ‘Debdas’, ‘Simana Periye’, ‘Surja Kanya’, ‘Rupali Saikate’, ‘Badhu Bidaay’ and ‘Badnaam’.

He also directed four films under the headers ‘Rajlakshi Srikanta’, ‘Akarshan’, ‘Garam Haowa’ and ‘Koto Je Apan’.

Bulbul Ahmed passed away on July 15, 2010 in Dhaka.
