Bangladesh national women’s football team players will be paid their monthly salaries from FIFA’s annual fund from now on, instead of sponsor money managed by the Bangladesh Football Federation, BFF women’s wing chairman Mahfuza Akhter Kiron confirmed on Sunday.
‘It is a bit of a relief for us (BFF) that from now on, we are allowed to pay women’s footballers salaries from the FIFA fund,’ Kiron told the reporters.
There are 31 footballers under BFF’s central contract in four categories of salary - Tk 50,000, Tk 30,000, Tk 20,000, and Tk 18,000 - since August 2023, following their maiden SAFF Women’s Championship title in 2022.
As the BFF had been struggling to regularly pay the monthly salary of women’s footballers, which is around Tk 11 lakh, they requested FIFA for help regarding this issue.
‘FIFA gave the permission, in response to our (BFF) request. Previously, we did not have the opportunity to pay the players’ salary from FIFA’s annual grant,’ said Kiron.
The BFF is set to renew its contract with the players in May.
The FIFA provides around Tk 10 crore to BFF as an annual grant.
