Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning member Angel di Maria’s visit to Bangladesh will be delayed for about two months as the player is now expected to visit the country in late July instead of previously scheduled time between May 20 and June 5, confirmed India’s Kolkata-based sports promoter Satadru Dutta on Thursday.
The 35-year-old winger, who now plays for Portuguese side Benfica, was scheduled to visit Kolkata and Dhaka in May, but had to reschedule due to India’s general election, which will be place from April 19 to June 1.
‘‘We had to delay Di Maria’s visit due to India’s general election,’ Satadru told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· after meeting with minister for youth and sports Nazmul Hasan at his Dhaka office on Thursday.
Argentine ambassador to Bangladesh Marcelo Carlos Sesa was also present during the meeting and discussed the ways of helping each other countries through football, hockey, cricket and kabaddi.
During the meeting with Nazmul, Satadru sought support from the ministry to organise an exhibition match between friends of Argentina and friends of Bangladesh with celebrity engagements at a local venue. Â
Previously, Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and former Brazilian forward Ronaldinho Gaucho visited Dhaka in July and October of 2023, respectively, on the same organiser’s arrangement.
