Bashundhara Kings completed their maiden domestic treble when they came from a goal down to beat last edition’s champions Mohammedan Sporting Club 2-1 in the final of the Federation Cup in Mymensingh on Wednesday.

Substitute midfielder Jahid Hossain scored the winner a minute before the end of the first-half of extra-time after the regulation time ended 1-1 in a crowd packed Rofique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium.

Nigerian midfielder Emmanuel Sunday gave Mohammedan the lead in the 63rd minute before Kings’ Brazilian midfielder Miguel Damasceno levelled the margin four minutes from the stipulated time.

With the win, Kings became only the second Bangladeshi club to complete a domestic treble after Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra made it in 2012–13.

Earlier, Kings defeated Mohammedan 2-1 in Mymensingh on May 11, 2024, to win their fifth consecutive Bangladesh Premier League title after defeating the same team by the same margin in the Independence Cup final in Gopalganj on December 18, 2023.

King’s Spanish coach, Oscar Bruzon, was ecstatic after winning the treble.

‘Yes, this is something that we are proud of, and this is something big for the club. We are now under huge emotion,’ said Bruzon in his immediate reaction after the match.

On the other hand, Mohammedan coach Alfaz Ahmed blamed bad refereeing for their defeat.

‘How can you play when the referee supports your opponent? The referee only gave a yellow card to Bishwanath (Ghosh) after he committed three to four fouls,’ he said following the match.

Making their debut in the country’s top-tier competitions in 2018, Kings have bagged 11 titles so far in six seasons, all under the tutelage of Bruzon.

They won their first of five straight league titles in their inaugural season of the BPL in 2019, but the next edition was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and they were unstoppable in the following four editions, winning in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Previously, they won the Independence Cup in 2018 and 2022, as well as the Federation Cup in 2019–2020 and 2020–2021.
