Bangladesh national women’s team interim coach Peter Butler called up four new faces as the Englishman announced a 23-member squad for their two FIFA international friendlies against Chinese Taipei scheduled to be held at the Kings Arena on May 31 and June 3.

Goalkeeper Yearzan Begum, midfielder Munki Akhter and forwards Sagorika and Suravi Akanda Prity received their maiden call ups while keeper Sathi Biswas was recalled to the side.


The hosts will miss the service of key midfielder Maria Manda due to an injury that she sustained while playing for champions Nasrin Football Academy in the recently concluded Women’s Football League.Ìý

Swarna Rani Mandal, Shopna Akter Jili, Marzia Akter, and forward Aklima Khatun, who played against Singapore in Bangladesh’s last international friendly at home in December 2023, were not included in the squad.

Butler, originally the BFF Elite Academy coach, was given the charge as the interim coach of the after former coach Saiful Bari Titu was appointed as the national technical director in early April.

‘I do believe in risk and rewards…I am not looking back. I want to see (the players) credible performances. The concerns are where you are and where you want to go. We are on a trajectory so you can’t just everything on results,’ said Butler during a press conference at the Bangladesh Football Federation on Wednesday.

This friendly series against the stronger opponents Chinese Taipei, who are 100 steps ahead of Bangladesh (140) in the current FIFA rankings, is the starting point of Bangladesh’s preparation to retain the SAFF Women’s Championship to be held in Dhaka in October-November 2024.

‘We are hosting a far better team Chinese Taipei eying to a good preparation before the SAFF Championship,’ said the BFF women’s wing chairman Mahfuza Akter Kiron.
