Bangladesh will take on mighty Syria in their Group A opening match of the AFC Under-20 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers at the Lach Tray Stadium, Hai Phong, Vietnam, today.
The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm Bangladesh Standard Time.
Maruful Haque’s charges, who had a short period of training at home before leaving for Vietnam on Wednesday, had a one and a half-hour final training session before the match on Friday.
Bangladesh team assistant coach Jahangir Alam Mintu was confident that his team would give their best to earn at least a draw against the Syrians.
‘Syrians are a strong opponent... We will fight to secure at least one point from the match,’ said Mintu during the training session on Friday.
Bangladesh forward Mirajul Islam, who scored the highest four goals in the SAFF U-20 Championship 2024 for the Bangladesh title win in August, was also expecting a good performance.
‘We all are fit and ready to give our best to make a good result against Syria,’ said Mirajul.
In the other matches of the five-team group, Bangladesh will face Guam, hosts Vietnam and Bhutan, on September 23, 27, and 29, respectively.
The 10-group winners and five best runners-up of the 45-team qualifiers tournament will join hosts China in the 16-team finals to be held from February 6 to 23, 2025.
