Bangladesh conceded deep into stoppage time to begin their SAFF Under-17 Championship with a 1-0 defeat against holders India at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan, on Friday.

Defender Sumit Sharma scored the lone goal of the match in an evenly contested encounter in the first (90+1) of the five minute stoppage time.

The win put India into the semi-finals from three-team Group A, while Bangladesh were left in a must-win situation in the next game against the Maldives on Sunday.

India capitalised on a set piece as Sumit headed home the ball from the box following a decent cross by substitute forward Manbhakupar Malngiang.

Saiful Bari Titu鈥檚 charges had good ball possession and were ahead of India in terms of attacking and creating opportunities, but they were unable to convert any of them.
