Bangladesh earned a consolation win in the AFC Under-20 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers as they beat Bhutan 2-1 in their fourth and final match of the five-team Group A at the Lach Tray Stadium, Hai Phong, Vietnam, on Sunday.

With both sides out of the qualification race for the finals prior to this match, Bangladesh finished third in the table with four points from four games, while Bhutan finished fifth with one point from the same number of games.


Maruful Haque鈥檚 team lost 4-0 to table-toppers Syria, 4-1 to hosts Vietnam, and drew 2-2 with Guam in their other games.

Bhutan remained winless, drawing 1-1 with Guam before losing to Vietnam 5-0 and Syria 1-0 in their other games.

In the day鈥檚 play, all three goals were scored by Bangladesh players as midfielder Asadul Islam Sakib put the ball into his own net in the 71st minute after midfielder Asadul Molla gave Bangladesh an early fourth-minute lead.

Substitute forward Moinul Islam, who replaced midfielder and captain Ashraful Haque Asif in the 84th minute, scored the match winner a minute later.

The 10-group winners and five best runners-up of the 45-team qualifiers tournament will join hosts China in the 16-team final stage to be held from February 6 to 23, 2025.
