The much-hyped elections of the Bangladesh Football Federation and its Annual General Meeting are scheduled to be held at the Intercontinental Hotel in the city on Saturday.聽

The three-member election commission headed by Mezbah Uddin will conduct the elections following the AGM from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the same venue.


A total of 133 councillors will access their voting rights from 2:00pm to 6:00pm to elect the 21-member executive committee of one president, one senior vice-president, four vice presidents, and 15 members for a four-year tenure.聽

The election commission will announce results from the venue in a press conference after completing the counting process of the voting.聽

Bashundhara Kings president and outgoing executive committee vice-president of BFF, Imrul Hasan, is set to be elected unopposed senior vice-president while the other 45 aspirants鈥攖wo presidents, six vice presidents, and 37 memberships鈥攚ill face competition.聽

Tabith Awal, a former BFF vice president and well-known personality in the country鈥檚 football community, will compete for the presidency post against AFM Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, a grassroots organiser from Dinajpur.聽

Syed Rummon Bin Wali Sabbir, Shafiqul Islam Manik, Fahad Mohammad Ahmed Karim, Wahid Uddin Chowdhury, Naser Shahriar Jahedi, and Sabbir Ahmed Aref are contesting for the vice presidents posts.聽

With the elections, Kazi Salahuddin鈥檚 16-year reign will come to an end. Salahuddin became president of the BFF for the first time in 2008, and on September 14, he announced that he would not seek a fifth term.

Salahuddin鈥檚 announcement prompted seasoned businessman Tarafder Ruhul Amin to announce his presidential candidacy within the next 24 hours.聽

Tarafder changed his mind shortly after Tabith announced his bid for president and collected nomination papers for the position of senior vice-president before withdrawing from the race on October 20.聽
