Tributes and condolences continue to pour in for Zakaria Pintoo, captain of the Shadhin Bangla football team, who passed away at a city hospital on Monday after a prolonged battle with multiple illnesses at the age of 81.
The board of directors of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in a condolence message expressed their deep shock and sorrow at the death of Pintoo.
The club kept its flag half-mast showing respect to him.
His namaz-e-Janaza will be held on Tuesday at the Mohammedan Sporting Club premises at 10am.
In another message, Bangladesh Olympic Association expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Pintoo.
President of BOA and Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman and its聽 Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza also condoled the death of Shadhin Bangla football team Captain Pintoo.
Bangladesh Volleyball Federation also expressed deep shock at the death of Zakaria Pintoo.
The National Sports Award winner Pintoo breathed his last around 11:45am at the age of 81.
He left behind one son, three daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Earlier, Bangladesh Football Federation president Tabith Awal, its聽 senior vice-president, vice presidents, general secretary, executive members,聽 officials and employees expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of聽 Pintoo and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Pintoo was born in Naogaon on January 1 in 1943 and represented both the聽 Pakistan national football team and the East Pakistan football team, captaining the latter in numerous occasions.
In club football, Pintoo represented Mohammedan, one of the most popular聽 clubs in Bangladesh, for a continuous period of 14 years.
In recognition for his contribution to the country's football, he was聽 accorded with the Independence Award in 1995 and the National Sports Awards in 1978.
