
Uzbekistani midfielder Sardor Jakmonov scored the decisive goal as the newcomers Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club dashed league leaders Mohammedan Sporting Club’s winning streak in the first leg of the Bangladesh Premier League at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla on Friday.
In the other match, defending champions Bashundhara Kings punished other newcomers Dhaka Wanderers Club 5-0 at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur.
Meanwhile, Police Football Club earned a comeback 2-1 win over Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh.
In Cumilla, the super-sub Sardor scored the all-important goal with a powerful shot from a 25-yard distance in the 66th minute after a back pass from outside the box from his compatriot forward Akobir Turaev.        Â
The Uzbekistani duo Sardor and Akobir took the field in the 59th minute, replacing midfielder Sumon Islam and forward Irfan Hossen respectively.
Mohammedan suffered the only defeat 1-0 after winning eight straight games to finish their first-leg campaign of the 10-team tournament at the top of the table.
On the other hand, Fakirerpool are in the seventh place as they collected nine points from nine games, having three wins and six losses.
In Gazipur, Kings’ Brazilian midfielder Jonathan Fernandes (11th), midfielder Md Sohel Rana (29th), defender Topu Barman (38th), forward Rakib Hossain (66th) and another Brazilian midfielder Miguel Damasceno (76th) scored once each.
In Mymensingh, Police FC forward Al-Amin (36th, 68th) scored a brace after Ghanaian midfielder Mamoud Oshie (25th) gave Rahmatganj the lead in the first half.
Kings, the treble winners, completed the first leg at the third place, just behind Abahani Limited, who confirmed the second spot with 19 points from eight games.
The five-time consecutive champions Kings collected 17 points from nine games as they registered five wins, against two draws and two losses.
After playing nine games each, fourth-placed Rahmatganj has accumulated 15 points, sixth-placed Police FC has secured 10 points, while Wanderers, in ninth place, remain in the relegation zone with just four points.
