The Bangladesh Football Federation has formed a seven-member committee to investigate the national women’s team’s complaint against head coach Peter Butler.
The women’s team players threatened to boycott all footballing activities and quit the national camp until the BFF removed the head coach from his designation on Thursday.
The development came after a group of senior players refused to join a recent meeting and train under Butler ahead of next month’s two FIFA international friendlies against the UAE.
After conducting a virtual meeting on January 30, BFF issued a press release announcing its decision to form a seven-member committee, with BFF vice-president Imrul Hasan as the chairman.
Bangladesh players enjoyed a long vacation before returning to Dhaka, and some junior players began training under assistant coach Mahbubur Rahman Litu on January 15.
However, the senior players revolted and refused to attend the meeting under Butler on Wednesday, calling for immediate action against the Englishman.
‘We will not join the training under this coach [Butler]. If the BFF doesn’t listen to us, we will leave the camp with our dignity,’ said Sabina Khatun to the media, who captained Bangladesh in both of their SAFF triumphs in 2022 and 2024 on Thursday.
‘We have nothing to prove anymore. This is about self-respect. At the end of the day, we play for the nation, but it is impossible to endure the criticism we are facing,’ said Sabina.
