Nine more members of Myanmar Border Guard Police fled conflict and entered Bangladesh through Jhimongkhali and Kharankkhali border of Whykong at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday morning amid their ongoing conflict with the ethnic rebel group Arakan Army.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh battalion-2 in Teknaf, confirmed the matter.
He said that the BGP members were kept in a Teknaf Hnila shelter and further action was under way.
For the past two months, various areas of Ukhia-Teknaf border have been shaking with the sound of explosions due to the conflict inside Myanmar.
Earlier, at least 179 personnel from Myanmar security forces crossed the border near Naikhyangchari in Bandarban on March 11.
On February 15, the Border Guard Bangladesh handed over to the Myanmar BGP 330 Myanmar citizens — 302 members of Myanmar BGP, four members of BGP family, two army members, 18 immigration members and four civilians — who had fled Myanmar conflict and entered Bangladesh.
