South Korean ambassador in Dhaka Park Young-sik met with Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general on Tuesday and discussed the scope for enhancing economic cooperation and investment in Bangladesh.
The hour-long meeting, which began at about 4:00pm, was held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office.
BNP standing committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan, the party’s chairperson advisory council member Tajvirul Islam, and organising secretary Shama Obaed were present at the meeting.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Moyeen Khan said that Bangladesh’s economic cooperation and investment with Korea had gained importance in the discussion.
They discussed the current situation in Bangladesh and the recent student-led mass movement. They also talked about the changes that had taken place in Bangladesh, he added.
‘Over the past 17 years, not only has the country been plagued by corruption, but the business sector has also suffered significantly. We discussed these issues alongside the prospects for Bangladesh’s economic relations with Korea,’ the BNP leader said.
He noted that Korea’s presence in Bangladesh was not driven by political objectives. Rather, its main purpose was to enhance financial cooperation between the two nations.
The BNP leader also said that the principle of the Korea-Bangladesh relationship was rooted in the mutual benefits for the people of both countries.
‘Following this policy, we have maintained strong ties in the past. We believe that if the people of Bangladesh entrust the BNP with the responsibility of governing the country, we will prioritise the interests of both Bangladeshis and Koreans as our foremost consideration to move forward on the path of development while maintaining the amity of both sides,’ he said.
