The Ministry of External Affairs of India on Thursday confirmed that the deposed prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, was still living in India.
鈥楩ormer Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had come to India for safety reasons; she continues to be here,鈥� Indian English language daily The Statesman, quoting external affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal as saying at a media briefing in New Delhi, reported.
His comments coincided with Bangladesh鈥檚 International Crimes Tribunal issuing an arrest warrant against Hasina, who resigned as prime minister and fled to聽 India on August 5 amid a student-led mass uprising.
In response to a question, the spokesperson said that there were currently limited visa operations by India in Bangladesh.
鈥榃hen the situation becomes conducive, full operations will resume,鈥� Randhir was quoted in the report as saying.
