At least 81 Rohingya people were detained on Monday morning by security agencies and local people after they had illegally entered the Alikadam area near the border between Bangladesh and Myanmar in Bandarban.

About 24 to 26 of them were detained at several checkpoints set up by security agencies while 57 were detained in the Alikadam Bus Stand area by local people, who later informed the upazila administration of the incident.

Confirming the matter to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·, Alikadam upazila nirbahi officer Rupayan Dev said that the army detained 24 to 26 people at several checkpoints and local people informed the upazila administration after seeing 57 Rohingyas in the Alikadam Bus Stand area.

‘We rushed to the spot immediately and detained 57 Rohingya people. As we reached the spot, we saw that the Rohingya people had already got on a bus,’ the UNO said.

Rupayan said that two groups of collaborators in Myanmar and Bangladesh were involved in helping the Rohingya people after taking money from them.

‘We found that Rohingya people provided up to Tk 8 lakh to the collaborators for entering Bangladesh illegally,’ he said, adding that all were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh.

BGB 57 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Akib Zaved told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the process of sending the Rohingya back to Myanmar was under way.
