The Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad in a statement on Tuesday condemned, expressed outrage, and protested at the attack on the assistant high commission of Bangladesh and the desecration of the national flag in Agartala of India.
In the statement, signed by the parishad’s acting general secretary Manindra Kumar Nath, the incident was described as ‘undesirable, unfortunate, and condemnable’.  Â
‘Showing respect to the national flag of every country is a sacred duty of the citizens of any nation. Any act of desecration amounts to undermining a nation’s independence and sovereignty,’ the statement read.
It is essential for citizens of any country to refrain from actions involving the desecration of any nation’s flag to protect both national and international interests, it added.
Earlier, resident students of Dhaka University’s Jagannath Hall, a dorm for minorities, held a protest march on Monday night condemning the attack in Agartala, the capital city of the Indian state of Tripura.
The march began at the dorm and ended at the Raju Memorial Sculpture, where the students joined an ongoing demonstration by other DU students to denounce the attack in Agartala.
Sarba Mitra, a student from Jagannath Hall, said that Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians, all belong to this country and no foreign power’s agents will be allowed here.
On December 2, a group of people protesting under the banner of Hindu Sangharsh Samity near the Bangladesh assistant high commission in Agartala, against the arrest of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das and the alleged attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, broke through the police cordon and barged into the office premises.
