
Defending champions Bangladesh stormed into the semi-finals of the Men’s AHF Cup 2025 with a crushing 5-0 win over Sri Lanka in their final Pool B match at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Wednesday.
With the win, Bangladesh maintained their 100 per cent winning record in the tournament, earning 12 points from four games, after defeating Thailand 2-1, Indonesia 3-2, and Kazakhstan 5-1 in their previous three games to emerge Pool B champions.
Bangladesh will now face Pool A runners-up Oman in the semi-final on Friday, while Pool A champions Chinese Taipei face Pool B runners-up Kazakhstan in the other semi-final on the same day.
The final of the tournament will be held on April 27. However, the finalists of this tournament will qualify for the next edition of the Asia Cup.
In the day’s play, Rakibul Hasan scored a brace, while Fazle Rabby, Arshad Hossain and Naim Uddin scored once each for the fourth straight time champions, Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka kept Bangladesh at bay in the first two quarters before Rakibul scored two field goals in the 39th and 42nd minutes before Rabby made it 3-0, also from a field goal, in the 43rd minute.
Bangladesh got two more goals in the final quarter, with Arshad scoring a field goal in the 49th minute before Naim pinned the final nail in Sri Lanka’s coffin from a penalty corner in the 50th minute.
