Ekushey Padak-winning poet and novelist Asim Saha passed away on Tuesday at the age of 75.

He breathed his last on Tuesday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital in Dhaka.


Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the demise of poet Asim Saha.

In a condolence message, she described his death as an irreplaceable loss for Bangla language and literature.

She also prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul and conveyed heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

Asim Saha received the Ekushey Padak, the country's second-highest civilian honour, in 2019 for his significant contributions to Bangla language and literature.

Additionally, he was awarded the Bangla Academy Award in 2012 in recognition of his overall literary achievements.

Born on 20 February 1949 in Netrokona district, Asim Saha was the son of Professor Akhil Buddha Saha.

He completed his secondary education in 1965 and higher secondary education from Madaripur Government Nazimuddin College in 1967.

In 1973, he obtained his post-graduate degree from the University of Dhaka.
