
Poet and freedom fighter Rafiq Azad’s Dhanmondi house was partially demolished by the National Housing Authority on Wednesday.
Dhanmondi police station officer-in-charge Kya Swee Nue said that the part of the building was demolished by the National Housing Authority in presence of police and executive magistrate.
‘Poet Rafiq Azad’s part of the building remained untouched,’ the OC told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
Poet Rafiq Azad’s widow Dilara Hafiz said that four families were used to live in the building, which was allocated by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
‘As the front of the building and gate is demolished, it has now become unlivable for us. I could not even bring out my car,’ she said.
Born on February 14, 1941 in Tangail, Rafiq Azad enriched Bangla literature penning diverse works.
Rafiq Azad depicted love, romance, poverty, sufferings, injustice, urban and rural life in his literary works.
The poet’s literary works include Simabaddha Jale Simita Sabuje, Chunia Amar Arkedia, Haturir Niche Jiban, Parikirna Panshalay Amar Swadesh, Sashastra Sundar, Kshama Karo Bahaman Hey Udar Amiya Batas, Pagla Garad Theke Premikar Chithi, Apar Aranya and Maulabir Man Bhalo Nai.
For his contribution to Bangla literature, he received several awards, including the Bangla Academy Literary Award and Ekushey Padak.
Rafiq Azad passed away on March 12 in 2016.
