The country鈥檚 crude salt production reached 22,34,658 tonnes till April 28, according to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation.
The press release issued on Monday said that the production this year was the highest since crude salt production started 63 years ago, and the time for production was not over.
It added that the production of salt might go on till mid-May.
The price of crude salt is Tk聽312 a maund this year, which was Tk聽420 a mound in the previous year. Salt production in Bangladesh was 18.39 lakh tonnes in 2023.
According to BSCIC data, the total salt cultivation has increased by 1,933 acres in the ongoing season to 68,357 acres from 66,424 acres in the past year.
The number of salt farmers has also increased as compared to the previous year, it said, adding that a total of 40,695 farmers cultivated salt this year while the number was 39,467 in the last season.
