Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Thursday said Bangladesh was working for sustainable development of the ship-recycling industry as per the Hong Kong ship recycling convention.
鈥楤angladesh has ratified the UN accord on ship recycling, also known as the Hong Kong Convention, on June 14, 2023 for the safe and environmentally sound recycling of ships.鈥�
鈥楢ccordingly, Bangladesh has to comply with the convention by June 26, 2025 and ensure Treatment Storage and Disposal Facility in all yards,鈥� he said.
The minister said this while meeting with International Maritime Organisation secretary-general Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco at the industries ministry in the city, according to a press release.
