
Candidates from two contesting panels, Sammilita Parishad and Forum, submitted their nomination papers on Saturday for the upcoming Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association election for the 2025-2026 tenure.
The election is scheduled to be held on May 31.
In a festive atmosphere, the candidates from two panels submitted their nomination papers at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara. Earlier on Thursday, six independent candidates submitted their nomination papers.
BGMEA administrator Md Anwar Hossain welcomed the leaders and candidates of both panels.
The Forum panel, led by Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu), the panel leader and managing director of Rising Fashions, was the first to submit its nomination papers.
He was accompanied by former BGMEA Presidents Anisur Rahman Sinha and Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), Forum President MA Salam, chief election coordinator Faisal Samad, and other senior Forum leaders.
The Sammilita Parishad panel, led by chief election coordinator and former BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, then submitted its nomination papers.
Accompanying him were Sammilita Parishad President and former BGMEA President Kazi Moniruzzaman, panel leader and managing director of Chaiti Group Abul Kalam, and other key leaders.
After the nomination submission, Mohammad Iqbal, chairman of the Election Board and former chairman of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), delivered his concluding remarks.
He thanked all candidates and asked for their cooperation to ensure a smooth, free, fair, and transparent election.
The preliminary list of candidates will be published shortly.
The Election Board said that, with the support of all stakeholders, it is working diligently to conduct the election in the quickest and most transparent manner possible.
