
Artistes of cultural organisation Bangladesh Rabindrasangeet Shilpi Sangstha is observing the 163rd anniversary of the birth of the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore organising a three-day festival at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital.
The 35th edition of the festival titled ‘Jatiya Rabindrasangeet Utsab’ is featuring discussions, songs, recitations, dance recitals and others.
The evening session of the second day of the festival on Friday began with Tagore singers rendering group songs titled ‘Baishakh He Mouni Tapas’ and ‘Aloker Ei Jharnadharay’.
Following the group performances, Mita De sang ‘Chinile Na Amare’ while Sumi Chakraborty sang ‘O Akuler Kul’, Nurul Islam sang ‘Parabasi Chole Eso’ and Progga Laboni sang ‘Mor Hridayer Gopan Bijan’, among others.
Recitation artiste Dalia Ahmed recited Tagore’s poem titled ‘Bashiwala’ at the programme.
Besides, Raiyan Khalid, Aniket Acharya, Kajol Mukherjee, Suraiya Mojammel, Nakul Chandra Das, Tamal Chakraborty, Suchitra Chakraborty, Susmita Das Oni, Nirmal Dey, Nibedita Halder and others sang songs at the programme.
Artistes from different cultural organisations, including Sangeet Bhaban, Rabirag, Surer Dhara, Boitalik, Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts, Surtirtha and Bishwabina entertained the audience rendering Tagore songs in the morning session of the festival.
The birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore is a special day for us. Bangladesh Rabindrasangeet Shilpi Sangstha has been organising the annual festival since 1989. We are organising the 35th edition of the festival this year,’ said the organisation’s general secretary Pijush Barua.
‘More than 150 Tagore singers are participating in this year’s festival,’ mentioned Pijush Barua.
‘The year 2024 marks the birth centenary of the late renowned Tagore singer Kalim Sharafi. Moreover, we lost renowned Tagore singer Sadi Mohammad this year. We are paying our tribute to them and dedicated this year’s festival to Sadi Mohammad,’ said Pijush Barua.
Education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury was present as chief guest while Ekushey Padak-winning thespian Ramendu Majumdar was present as special guest at the inaugural ceremony of the festival on Thursday.
Bangladesh Rabindrasangeet Shilpi Sangstha honoured Rezwana Choudhury Bannya for her contribution to Tagore songs at the inaugural ceremony.
