
Today is the seventh anniversary of death of eminent singer and flautist Bari Siddiqui, who enthralled music lovers both at home and abroad during his long and illustrious music career.
Born on November 15, 1954, Bari Siddiqui was drawn to music at an early age. He learnt classical music under Ustad Gopal Dutt, Ustad Aminur Rahman, Babir Khan and Pannalal Ghosh. Later, he developed a passion for flute, and trained under eminent classical flautist VG Karnad in Pune, India.
A flautist of international repute, he performed in many countries, including France, Switzerland, Malaysia, Pakistan, Iran and Singapore.
He used to sing at small gatherings. In 1999, he came into the limelight as a singer rendering playback numbers in Humayun Ahmed’s film ‘Shraban Megher Din’. All six songs, which Siddiqui sang for the film, received a huge response from the audience.
He rendered songs of many folk bards, including Ukil Munshi, Chan Mia and others.
Bari Siddiqui passed away on November 24, 2017.
He conquered the hearts of the music lovers rendering songs, including ‘Pubali Batase’, ‘Amar Gaye Jato Duhkha Say’, ‘Lilua Batase’, ‘Amar Manda Swabhab’, ‘Din Ratrir Hayna Milan’, ‘Moner Duhkha’, ‘Rajani Haisna Abasan’, ‘Ami Ekta Jinda Lash’, ‘Matir Deha’, ‘Nashta Jiban’, ‘Bhaber Deshe’ and ‘Shuyachan Pakhi’.
