Bangladesh archer Sagor Islam made a dismal exit from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after he conceded a straight 0-6 set points defeat to Italy鈥檚 Mauro Nespoli in the elimination round of the men鈥檚 recurve individual event at the Esplanade des Invalides on Wednesday.

Sagor, the only Bangladeshi athlete to directly qualify for the Paris Games, could not even push Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Mauro to play the full five sets after the latter won the first three by 27-30, 26-27, and 25-28 points.

Earlier on July 25, Sagor scored 652 points in the ranking round to place 45th among 64 archers to qualify for the elimination round against the Italian, who placed 20th with 670 points.

The other two Bangladesh campaigners, swimmer Sonia Khatun and sprinter Imranur Rahman, will compete in their respective events on August 3.

Sonia will compete in the heat of the women鈥檚 50-metre freestyle event, while Imranur will compete in the preliminary round of the men鈥檚 100-metre sprint.

Apart from archer Sagor, two other Bangladeshi athletes鈥攕hooter Robiul Islam and swimmer Samiul Islam Rafi鈥攎ade their exit from the Games on July 28 and 30, respectively.

Robiul was eliminated from the qualification round of the men鈥檚 10-metre air rifle event after finishing 43rd among 49 participants by scoring 624.2 points.

Rafi鈥檚 career-best timing of 53.10 seconds in the heat-2 of the men鈥檚 100-metre freestyle was not enough for qualification after he finished 69th among 79 swimmers who competed split into 10 heats.
