The National Sports Council, in a circular on Thursday, stated that the sport’s governing body of the country approved ad-hoc committees of nine sports federations to dissolve the existing ones under Clause 21 of the NSC Act 2018.

Athletics, kabaddi, hockey, chess, billiard and snooker, basketball, bridge, tennis, and squash all got ad-hoc committees of 14 to 19 members.

The circular made no mention of the end of the term for these ad hoc committees, which were mostly made up of former athletes, corporate executives, and service members.

The development comes about two months later when the ministry of youth and sports removed all the heads of 42 sports bodies, excluding hockey, among these nine federations on September 10.

Following the student-led uprising that deposed Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, the youth and sports ministry removed the presidents of 27 federations, 13 associations, the Bangladesh Martial Art Confederation, and the Bangladesh Paralympic Committee.
