
Rahenur Islam, a former daily Kaler Kantho reporter, earned the BSPA Sports Journalist of the Year 2023 award in a festive ceremony at a city hotel on Friday, as the Bangladesh Sports Press Association honoured journalists in eight categories.
Rahenur, who is currently the deputy sports editor of the online news portal 鈥榮hokalshondha.com, also received the exclusive report award and the first runner-up award in the feature reporting category.
Former Channel 24 television reporter Shadman Shakib and the Dhaka Post reporter Arafat Zubaear won the first and second runners-up awards of the Sports Journalist of the Year, respectively.
Freelance journalist Tarun Sarkar won the series report 2023 award, while Zubaear won the first runners-up award, and Channel 71 television reporter Mehedi Nayeem won the second runner-up award in the same category.
Zubaear also won the first runners-up award of the exclusive report 2023, while Dhaka Tribune reporter Shishir Hoque won the second runners-up award in the same category.
Prothom Alo reporter Tarek Mahmud won the award for the best interview in the print and online category, while Cricbuzz reporter Atif Azam and Desh Rupantor reporter Sudipta Ahmed Ananda won the first and the second runners-up awards, respectively.
Samakal reporter Sonjoy Saha Piyal won the feature report award, while Prothom Alo reporter Masud Alam was the second runner-up in the print and online category.
T Sports reporter Mahfujul Alam won the best interview award in the television interview category, while Maasranga TV reporter Sakir Ruben and Channel 24 reporter Ekram Hossain won the first and second runners-up awards, respectively.
Another T sports reporter, Rifat Emil, won the best feature report award in the television category, while Sadman and Channel 24 reporter Ariful Islam won the first and the second runners-up awards in the same category.
Prothom Alo photographer Shamsul Hoque Tanku won the best photography award, while Firoj Alam of the Daily Star and Tanvin Tamim of the Daily Sun won the first and second runners-up awards, respectively.
Three veteran sports journalists, Parag Arman, Zahid Rahman, and Chinmoy Saha, were honoured with the World Sports Day Awards.
The jury board of the awards consisted of six members: Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder (deputy press secretary to the chief adviser of the interim government) and Shokalshondha.com sports in charge Sanat Babla, Channel 24 sports editor Dilu Khandaker, weekly Krira Jogot editor Dulal Mahmud, sportsbangla.news executive editor MM Kayser, and ATN television鈥檚 Parag Arman.
