Bangladesh Navy emerged champions with two more new national records set on the third and final day of the 48th National Athletics Championship at the National Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Navy鈥檚 Nathera Khatun, Nusrat Jahan Runa, Shirin Akter, and Sabiya Al Soha clocked 3:51.62 seconds in the women鈥檚 400-metre relay to set up a new national record.


They broke the previous record of 3:55:55 seconds made by BJMC鈥檚 Nasima, Subarna, Monia, and Sumita in December 1993.

In the men鈥檚 pole vault, Bangladesh Army鈥檚 Shorov Miah set a new national record when he crossed over 4.50 metres, breaking the previous record of 4:35-metre set by Navy鈥檚 Humayun Kabir in 2006.

Navy finished with 50 medals (21 gold, 17 silver and 12 bronze) followed by Army with 57 medals as they earned 19 gold, 19 silver and same number of bronze medals.

In three days, a total of six new national records were set where 40 events鈥22 for men and 18 for women鈥攚ere held.

Earlier, Army runner Najimul Hossain Roni set a record in the men鈥檚 400-metre hurdles; another Army runner, Borsha Khatun, set a record in the women鈥檚 400-metre hurdles; Navy athlete Golam Sorowar set a record in the shotput; and Navy鈥檚 Shirin Akter, Kabita Roy, Sumaiya Dewan, and Sonia Akter set a record in the women鈥檚 100-metre relay.
