The Student Movement Against Discrimination students have recently renovated a sculpture titled Swadhikar Theke Swadhinata in Kushtia.
The sculpture, created by artist Shahid Hossain in 1973, is situated on Nawab Sirajuddaula road in the Poura Bazar area of the district as a symbol of the struggle of the War of Independence.
‘The sculpture was one of the earliest monuments of the country’s liberation war.  But due to lack of maintenance, it was used as a parking zone for rickshaws,’ said Arghya Biswas, a member of the district’s Student Movement Against Discrimination.
He also said that they renovated the sculpture with the help of students and cultural activists on Friday.
‘I urge all to save our sculptures and murals,’ added Arghya Biswas.
