Poets and writers at a programme on Monday urged people of the country to remain alert so that no government could be a ‘fascist’ and ‘dictator’ in the name of development or any other issues in future. 

The programme titled Ganamanusher Janya Kabita was organised under the banner of Poets, Artists, Writers and Readers held at the Chhabir Hat in the University of Dhaka.


The government should work for the development of the country. But in the name of country’s development or any other issues, no government can be a ‘fascist’ and ‘dictator’ in future, they said.

Pointing out the freedom of expression of the people of the country, they said that the government must take steps to establish the freedom to express their practices of cultural activities and arts.

Poets read their self-penned poems while recitation artistes performed poems about student and people-led uprisings, people’s rights, anti-fascism and anti-establishment at the programme.

Ovijit Roy Raghu, Amir Khasru Shwpan, Shuvo Ghosh, Nahidul Islam, Sufian Shajal, Hashem Saikat, Main Mojumder, Shaikot, Barnamala, among others, read poems at the programme, which was moderated by poet and editor of Kabitar Rajpath, Monir Yousuf.

Before reading his poem titled Shrenitushtir Ganatantra O Petiburjoya Khaslat, Monir Yousuf said, ‘Development is the constant process of any government. We have to be aware that no one can try to establish a “fascist” regime in the name of development in future.’

He also requested political parties to never deceit people of the country after witnessing the student-led uprising. 

Amir Khasru Shwpan read his poem titled Ami Majhe Majhe Uposh Thaki at the programme.

He said, ‘We have to reform our system, which creates regime.’

Mentioning that intellectuals and artistes should change the image they created during the deposed Sheikh Hasina government, Ovijit Roy Raghu said, ‘We have to be united in achieving our citizen rights,’.

Poet Nahidul Islam read his poem titled Bipluta Mahakal Janten at the programme. He mentioned that after every uprising in the country, the dreams of the people of this country to live a dignified life were broken due to the dictatorial approach of the rulers.

‘We have to make sure that our representatives cannot be dictators again in the name of development,’ Nahidul added.
