
The newly appointed director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Syed Jamil Ahmed said on Sunday that a dialogue was needed with all stakeholders for successful structural reforms in the cultural sector.
He also said that the spirit of student-led mass uprising needed to be carried forward to build an inclusive Bangladesh.
He made the remark while addressing a view exchange meeting with Bikhubdho Theatrekormigon over their expectations from the BSA.
The discussion was held in the meeting room of the BSA in the capital.
He also said that the academy must be accountable to its executive council and the council needed more cultural activists instead of bureaucrats.
‘We are scheduled to organise meetings with all stakeholders and executive council for starting BSA’s primary activities as a short-term priority,’ said Jamil. Â
Bikhubdho Theatrekormigon, shared their views on contemporary theatre practice of the country and its development.
They demanded peaceful coexistence of all to build an inclusive Bangladesh, increasing theatre-based activities in Dhaka and other districts of the country.
Playwright and cultural activist Samina Luthfa said, ‘We have to build more cultural centres in Rampura, Jatrabari, Uttara and other corners of the city. To regain momentum, the BSA can organise theatre festivals in Dhaka and other divisional cities with prominent and promising theatre troupes.’ Â
Mohammad Bari, Faiz Zahir, Azad Abul Kalam, Kazi Toufiqul Islam, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Sydur Rahman Lipon, Saif Suman, Kazi Roksana Ruma, Sahana Rahman Sumi, Shamima Shawkat Lovely, Ziaul Haque Titas, Ashiqur Rahman Leeon, Samiun Jahan Dola, Shahman Moishan, among others, were present at the meeting.
