The Anti-Corruption Commission has called for record sheets of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s four audit objections, including fake vouchers under the former director general of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky.
The commission assistant director, Afnan Jannat Keya, confirmed on Tuesday that they called for record sheets for analysis of the complaints against Liaquat Ali Lucky.
The audit objection 48 claimed that BSA’s archaeological site-specific theatre production Mahasthan which was also directed by Lucky withdrew Tk 85 lakh without staging the production.
It also claimed that Tk 40 lakh was also withdrawn for light-sound shows which were not held.Â
The objection 49 claimed that Tk 1,00,75,850 was withdrawn against a five-day music workshop across 63 districts, which was not held.
The objection number 41 said that a reconditioned vehicle was bought instead of a brand new vehicle.
‘We called for record sheets but the BSA took time to submit those,’ said Afnan Jannat Keya.
Earlier, the ACC filed a case against 24 persons, including Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s former director general Mohammad Liaquat Ali Lucky and director for administration Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury on charges of appointing 23 candidates illegally.
According to the case statement, the accused had illegally appointed 23 candidates to 10 positions at the BSA by increasing marks in the written exams, though they failed in the exams.
The candidates joined the posts and withdrew Tk 8.28 crore from the government fund as salaries and allowances, said the case statement.
Liaquat Ali Lucky took charge of BSA as its director general on April 7, 2011. Lucky’s tenure as the director general of BSA was extended for a record seventh time when he was reappointed in March 2023, and resigned on August 12 after Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of prime minister.
He was frequently called upon to step down due to corruption, nepotism, and several other allegations.
The ACC questioned him on allegations of corruption back in 2022.
