
The 153rd anniversary of the birth of writer and collector of medieval Bangla literature, Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad, will be observed today.
Born on October 11, 1871 at Suchakradandi in Chattogram, Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad made an immense contribution to Bangla literature by collecting and preserving folk literature, especially puthis.
He collected more than 2,000 puthis, among which more than 1,000 of them were written by Bengali Muslims.
He had a special interest in Muslim contribution to Bangla literature in the medieval period.
His literary works were first published in the monthly ‘Naba-Nur’ magazine. His works have been included in the curricula of secondary, higher secondary and graduation-level institutions in Bangladesh.
Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad passed away in 1953.
