The four-day first solo painting exhibition of artist Yasmin Luthfun-Nahar Haque is underway at Safiuddin Shilpalay of Dhanmondi in the capital.
The exhibition titled ‘She and Nature’ features 34 paintings. Â
The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by former faculty of Civil Engineering at BUET M Shamim Z Bosunia and former faculty of Architecture department Shamsul Wares on Saturday.
The paintings created with pastel, oil and acrylic on paper depicts nature and women especially flowers, butterflies, horses, birds, hens and portraits of women in her body of work.
‘Through this set of paintings, I have endeavoured to illustrate the beauty of Mother Nature. The definition, and concurrently the theme of mother nature from my perspective contain not only flora and fauna, but also the feminine form,’ said Luthfun-Nahar.
‘Women and Nature have the capacity to reproduce. There is also a relationship between flowers and butterflies. Butterflies assist with pollination, and they are also contained in this exhibition,’ said Luthfun-Nahar who mentioned that she preferred to use bright colours including red, brown and blue while she portrayed horses in a semi-realistic approach.
‘Architecture is a diverse subject. Many architects are working in painting, photography and other creative mediums. Architect and planner Yasmin has painted spontaneously. I think people from all walks of life should take care of their own writing and art practice,’ said M Shamim Z Bosunia.
‘Artists and writers contribute to the language and culture of a country through their work. Most of our artists are based on craft and influenced by western art movements. We have many individually successful artists but we cannot create any mentionable art movement in the history of art due to lack of unity,’ Shamsul Wares said, adding that artists should be concerned about nature and the environment.Â
The exhibition will end on July 9.
