A 16-day group art exhibition titled Abstraction is under way at Galleri Kaya at Uttara in the capital.

The exhibition is showcasing 54 works created in oil, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, etching, aquatint, woodcut print and watercolour on paper and canvas with metal and bronze sculptures by 26 modern and contemporary artists of the country.


Artworks of artists, including Safiuddin Ahmed, Mohammad Kibria, Aminul Islam, Murtaja Baseer, Debdas Chakraborty, Kazi Abdul Baset, Hamiduzzaman Khan, Kalidas Karmakar, Abul Barq Alvi, Mohammad Eunus, and Md Tokon鈥檚, are being displayed at the exhibition.

The event widely explores abstract art and its expansion in Bangladesh.聽

The artworks, created between 1957 and 2024, were mostly influenced by abstract expressionism focusing on textures, forms, tones, and technical aspects to convey various messages closely tied to political unrest, economic challenges, and social inequalities.

The artworks also address relevant national and international issues including globalisation, communalism, feminism and environment issues.

The exhibition was inaugurated by former adviser to the caretaker government of Bangladesh and BRAC chairman Hossain Zillur Rahman on Friday.

The event will remain open every day till October 26.
