
A 16-day solo art exhibition titled In Quest of Bono-bibi by artist Saidul Haque Juise is under way at Kalakendra in the capital.
The exhibition portrays the disaster of Sundarbans and the mythical character ‘Bono-bibi’, the lady of the forest who watched over the forest and its inhabitants. and she symbolises harmony between humans and nature.
At the exhibition, a total of 57 drawings portray the disasters in Sundarbans.
The mixed media exhibition also displays paintings, poems on Bono-bibi and wire sculptures with a paper-made large sculpture at the gallery.
The exhibition aims to create awareness about the environment and start a dialogue about saving nature among youths, said Saidul Haque Juise.
‘Most of the collage drawings were created during the pandemic and the poems of the exhibition were collected from various poets while some were written by me,’ Juise said, adding that his mediums of art are also eco-friendly.
‘Artists cannot make people aware of the environment, but they can express the urgency of taking steps to save the environment,’ Juise said, adding that he likes to express his ideas with simplicity.
A paper made large sculpture shows that people are carrying a big bone like carrying a dead body which emphasises that the Sundarbans is dying each day because of human interventions and climate change. Â
Renowned artist Rafiqun Nabi inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest while architect Marina Tabassum was present as a special guest at the opening ceremony held on Friday.
The exhibition will end on April 20.
