Drik Picture Library lifted the curtain on Bangladesh Press Photo Contest 2025 with an awards ceremony at the DrikPath Bhaban at Panthapath in the capital on Saturday.

The 12-day exhibition is featuring 31 photographs of 21 photographers which will continue till April 30.  


Managing director of Drik Picture Library Shahidul Alam delivered his welcome speech while judges of the contest namely Adviser to Chakma Circle and Human Rights Defender Rani Yan Yan, photographer-teacher Munem Wasif and special photojournalist of daily Prothom Alo Zahidul Salim spoke and handed over awards to seven award-winning photojournalists at the programme.

The event was moderated by ASM Rezaur Rahman, also curator of the exhibition.

The Picture of the Year 2024 was awarded to Ashraful Alom, former photojournalist of the Prothom Alo who received Tk 1,00,000 as prize money.

Six other photographers in three categories also won awards at the event.

Each category winner and honorable mention winner received Tk 50,000 and Tk 10,000 respectively, in addition to crests and certificates.

Jajang Nokrek, a Garo Indigenous photographer from the plain, has won the ‘Indigenous People Grant 2025’ under the Bangladesh Press Photo Contest while the exhibition features ‘Indigenous People Grant 2024’ winner Denim Chakma’s photo.

The names of 7 winners were announced at the inaugural ceremony on April 19. 

The contest was launched on February 9 with an open photo call while 252 photojournalists submitted 1,310 photos taken over the past year.
