The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party vice-chairman and businessman, Abdul Awal Mintoo, suddenly fell sick and was immediately admitted to United Hospital in the capital on Saturday.

According to family members, after participating in a wedding programme, he returned home on Friday night and went to bed to sleep and felt severe pain in his chest.


At one point he is said to have fainted and was rushed to hospital, they said.

Mintoo鈥檚 eldest son, BNP leader Tabith Awal, said that doctors apprehended he might have suffered from cardiac complications.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam went to the hospital to visit ailing Abdul Awal Mintoo at about 2.30pm.

The 74-year-old Abdul Awal Mintoo is the founder of Multimode Group.

He also served the businessmen鈥檚 apex organisation, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, as a president.
