The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party has formed a five-member committee to conduct an impartial and thorough investigation into the incident of fire at a temple and the lynching of siblings in Faridpur鈥檚 Madhukhali upazila.

The opposition formed the committee at its standing committee meeting held on Monday night virtually chaired by the BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, BNP senior joint general secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said in a statement on Tuesday.

The committee has been instructed to submit the report within the next five days, it said, adding that BNP vice-chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury has been made the committee鈥檚 convener.

The other committee members are BNP chairperson鈥檚 advisory council member Bijan Kanti Sarkar, organising secretary Shama Obaid, executive committee member Ruhul Quddus Kazal and assistant religious affairs secretary Amalendu Das Apu.

The statement says that the meeting expressed deep concern over the incidents that occurred on Thursday evening in Madhukhali upazila, where two construction workers were brutally beaten to death at a primary school following a fire incident at nearby temple.

The formation of the committee aims to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the fire and the murder of the two brothers.
