Some activists of the ruling Awami League-backed student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League allegedly evicted a first-year student from his allocated seat at Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall of Jahangirnagar University on Thursday night.

The victim, Abidul Islam, a student of the economics department of the university’s 2022-23 academic session, lodged a complaint with the hall provost in this regard.

According to the complaint, Abidul was ousted from his seat at midnight on Thursday and assaulted by the hall unit BCL activist, Sheikh Muhammad Muaz, and his associates.

Contacted, Abidul said, ‘They assaulted me on Tuesday night as I did not attend their so-called addressing session and asked me to leave the hall.’

‘They tried to prove me to be a drug-addict by putting drug paraphernalia intentionally on my bed and captured it on their mobile phone,’ Abidul said, adding that the BCL activists forced him to leave the hall following the consequences.

Contacted, accused Muaz termed the allegation against him as fabricated and baseless.

Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall provost professor Sabbir Alam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that he received a complaint over the incident.

‘Action will be taken if the allegations are proved to be true after proper investigation into the incident,’ the provost added.

Professor Sabbir Alam also said that he managed another seat for Abidul after the incident.
