
Leaders of Ganatantra Mancha, a combined platform of six political parties, on Friday said that people rejected the ongoing upazila parishad polls as elections could not be free and fair under the incumbent government.
Central leaders of the organisation were speaking at the representatives meeting, held at Guptapara in Ranjpur city at noon, where coordinator of Rangpur district Ganatantra Manch, and Ganosamhati Andolan Touhidur Rahman chaired.
Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq said that the first phase of upazila elections, which held on Wednesday, proved that people had lost their interests to cast their votes under Awami League government.
Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki said that AL government was continuing corruptions and looting money from banks and different development projects.
Rastra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator Hasnat Quaiyum said that without huge reforms of government and ruling system, it would not be possible to stabilise democratic rule in the country.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon, Nagarik Oikya central leader Mufakkharul Islam Nabab and Bhashani Onusari Parishad central leader Babul Biswas and local leaders of Mancha spoke at the meeting.
