Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD president ASM Abdur Rob said on Tuesday that the ruling Awami League government could not avoid responsibility for corruption committed by former police chief Benazir Ahmed.

ASM Abdur Rob, in a press statement, said that the government should inquire how many corrupt government officials remained in the government service and should take action against them for accumulating unusual wealth abusing their positions as government officials.

The Awami League government has patronised corrupt officials to remain in power without the mandate of the people, Rob said.

On May 26, the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court ordered the authorities to attach 119 more properties, including four apartments of Benazir and his family members, to facilitate the proper investigation into graft allegations against the former top official of Bangladesh Police.

Earlier on May 23, the same court ordered the authorities concerned to freeze 33 financial accounts, including 27 bank accounts of Benazir and his family members.

The court also ordered attaching the properties of the former IGP under 83 deeds in Cox鈥檚 Bazar and Gopalganj districts.
