
Politicians, academics, and professionals called on opposition political parties to wage movements to end the misrule of the Awami League at a book publication ceremony on Tuesday.
The event, organised by the publishing house Suchipatra, held at the National Press Club and featured the book ‘My experiences as a deputy commissioner of Feni for 321 days’ by former bureaucrat AFM Solaiman Chowdhury, now convener of the Amar Bangladesh Party.
The ceremony was chaired by the author himself.
Main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that the country was facing the fascist rule of the Awami League.
He called for unity among opposition political parties to compel the government to resign.
‘We want to establish a democratic country where people’s voting rights are restored, and they can enjoy their democratic rights,’ Mirza Fakhrul said.
Former Dhaka University professor and economist Mahbubullah praised Solaiman Chowdhury as an honest bureaucrat, who never compromised during his service life.
He expressed hope for Solaiman’s success in his current political role as convener of the AB Party.
Former Jahangirnagar University professor and political scientist Dilara Choudhury lamented the corruption among current government officials.
She urged opposition political parties to mobilise against the Awami League’s misrule.
Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna claimed that the people were ready to participate in movements to end the Awami League’s misrule.
Journalist leader Abdul Hye Sikder echoed the sentiment, stating that the journalist community was also prepared to join such movements.
The programme was conducted by Mojibur Rahman Monju, member secretary of the AB Party.
