
Left leaders on Friday at a commemoration meeting said that ideals of Haider Akbar Khan Rano would have to be followed to establish a democratic and exploitation-free Bangladesh.
They said that in his long political life, Rano worked and wrote so that left politics could flourish in the country.
They also said that people must follow his ideals and writings for establishing an exploitation-free society.
The Communist Party of Bangladesh organised the commemoration meeting at the Bangladesh Medical Association auditorium on Topkhana Road, to commemorate its former advisory council member Haider Akbar Khan Rano, who died on May 11 at a Dhaka hospital at the age of 82.
Former president of CPB Mujahidul Islam Selim said that Rano was a true leftist who wanted to establish an exploitation-free democratic society where people could enjoy their rights.
For this, he was involved in left politics all his life and also wrote books so that the left politics could flourish in the country, Selim, now a central committee member of the party, said.
‘It will be our duty to follow the ideals of Rano and work for establishing the ideals of the left politics,’ Selim added.
Adviser of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh Khalequzzaman said that death of Haider Akbar Khan Rano created a void for left politics of the country.
Rano in his long political life was involved in anti-imperialist movements of the country and wanted to establish a democratic, non-sectarian country, Khalequzzaman said.
CPB central leader and also economist MM Akash said that Haider Akbar Khan Rano believed that without socialism the fate of the common people of the country could not be changed.
He called on leaders and activists of the party to read the books Rano had written.
Revolutionary Communist League central leader Abdus Satter said that Rano wanted to bring changes in the life of common people and establish their rights.
CPB central leader Laxmi Chakraborty said that Rano believed that the rights of the women must be established for establishing an advanced society.
Another central leader of the party Abdullah Al Kafi Ratan said that Rano was a left leader in Bangladesh who had relations with the leaders of world communist leaders.
The niece of Rano, Ananya Laboni, said that her uncle Haider Akbar Khan Rano was devoted to his political party and after his death he became property of political party.
Ragib Ahsan Munna, a CPB central leader and also former vice-president of the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union,  said that Rano was a true leftist who loved his party comrades much.
Another CPB central leader, Hasan Tarique Chowdhury, said that they would follow the ideals of Rano so that left politics could flourish in the country.
Chaired by presidium member of the party, Shihin Rahman, assistant general secretary Mihir Ghosh conducted the programme.
The artists of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi rendered people’s songs before the commemoration meeting.
