Leaders of the Workers Party of Bangladesh, a partner of the ruling Awami League-led alliance, on Tuesday at a protest rally called on the government to take steps to stop corruption, and demanded exemplary punishment of the looters and corrupt people.

They also demanded immediate arrest of those people.


Dhaka City north and south unit of the party organised the rally in front of the capital鈥檚 National Press Club, which was chaired by the Dhaka City south convener Kishore Roy.

Politburo member of the party Mahmudul Hasan Manik said that the Awami League government had failed to stop mass corruptions and also failed to introduce good governance in the country.

As a result, some government officials had engulfed in corruptions and became owner of huge amount of money and property through corruptions.

He demanded the immediate arrest of the looters, corrupts and giving them exemplary punishments.

Another politburo member Quamrul Ahsan said that the government had failed to control price hikes of the essential commodities, which had increased sufferings of the common people to run their families.

Dhaka City leader Sadakat Hossain Babul said that inequality had increased during the Awami League rule and assets were accumulated in the hands of a few number of rich people.

The party also held countrywide rallies, including in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Gazipur against corruptions, a party press release said.
