
Amar Bangladesh Party member secretary Mojibur Rahman Monju was allegedly ‘picked up’ at midnight on Monday from Mirpur DOHS area, by people in plain clothes identifying themselves as law enforcement officers.
Leaders of various left-leaning political parties strongly condemned and protested the detention of Monju.
In a statement on Tuesday, the leaders claimed that after the attempt to suppress the students’ movement for quota reform by killing hundreds of students across the country, the government had started a combing operation to arrest opposition party leaders and activists then.
They demanded an end to the arrests and harassment in false cases, and the immediate release of those arrested.
The leaders also urged the public to form a united mass resistance to ensure the resignation of what they called the genocidal government.
Signatories included Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD president ASM Abdur Rob, 12-party alliance chief Mustafa Jamal Haider, Nagrik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Haque, and 10 others.
