Four more cases, three for murder and another for attempted murder, were filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her aides on Wednesday.

Hasina, also president of the Awami league, is now facing a total of 77 cases after the fall of her government on August 5 amid a mass uprising led by students.


She is accused in 64 murder cases, seven cases over genocide and crimes against humanity, one case for shooting at students and public, two abduction cases, one case for arson attack, one case for attempted murder and one case of attacking the motorcade of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Four cases of murders and attempt to murder were filed with three different courts in the capital Dhaka.

One case was filed against Hasina and 21 others over the death of City University student Md Sajjad Hossain Sajal near Ashulia Police Station during the mass uprising on August 5.

The victim鈥檚 brother Mizanur Rahman filed the case with the court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman, said bench officer Mohiuddin Ahmed.

The magistrate directed the officer-in-charge of the police station to register it as a first information report.

The accused included former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, former AL lawmaker Saiful Islam, former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former Detective Branch chief Harun-or Rashid, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Habibur Rahman and former DMP joint commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarker.

Besides, 40-50 unidentified people were also accused in the case.

According to the case statement, Md Sajjad Hossain Sajal, 19, joined the protesting students at Baipail on August 5 where police opened fire.

Police picked up Sajal and tortured him in police custody.

Later, they shot him dead.

After that, police put the body inside a human hauler and set the vehicle on fire to destroy the evidence, the complaint said.

The family got Sajal鈥檚 body on August 6 after a vigorous search as they (police) tried to hide the body along with bodies of eight others.

The second case was filed against 32 including Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, daughter Saima Wazed and son Sajeeb Wazed Joy over the killing of grocery shop owner Md Mizanur Rahman, 28, on July 19.

Victim鈥檚 father Md Kamal Hossain filed the case with the court of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain.

The court later directed Khilgaon police to register it as a FIR, bench officer Aminul Islam said.

According to the case statement, Mizanur went to his shop in Banasree area on July 19 and was shot at from helicopters.

He was shot in his left leg.

Later, he was taken to a private hospital but his condition deteriorated there.

He was then taken to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation, where he died due to excessive bleeding.

The third case was filed with Khilgaon police station against 27 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, in connection with the death of 14-year-old Ashikul Islam during the student movement, United News of Bangladesh reported.

The victim鈥檚 mother Arisha Afruz filed the case.

Ashikul was shot dead in the capital鈥檚 Banasree area on July 19.

The fourth case was filed against Hasina and 46 others over attempting to murder a lawyer named Abdul Baset Shamim in Maniknagar Bishwa Road area on July 18.

Shamim, 28, himself filed the case with the Dhaka Metropolitan Chief Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain.

The court directed the Mugda police to register it as an FIR.

In his complaint, Shamim said that 400-500 people including law enforcers, police and AL activists opened fire on the students protesting for quota reform in government jobs.

At that time, Shamim was passing by the Babu Doctor Goli area, where he was shot at.

Shamim鈥檚 treatment is ongoing as he still has rubber bullet in his bodies, the complaint said.
